DeKalb slides past HNHS swimboys

The Huntington North High School boys’ swim team got two wins from Keegan Mautz, but it wasn’t enough as the Vikings fell to visiting DeKalb, 81-74, on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Mautz topped the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle. The junior took the medley in 2:36.24 and the freestyle in 1:00.25.

Conner Mason logged a first-place finish as well for Huntington North. The senior put forth his golden effort in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at :27.43. Mason also tallied second-place points for the Vikings, doing so in the 500-yard freestyle, which he swam in 6:24.12.

Nathan York was a two-time runner-up for Coach Mycal Rodenbeck’s squad. The sophomore took second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:21.49 before repeating the feat in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:16.42.

Aidan Miller captured silver in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:13.62. The junior also claimed third in the 200 IM, stopping the timer in 2:49.34.

In relay action, Huntington North topped the 200-yard freestyle in 2:12.10. The Vikings’ winning quartet consisted of senior Reid Dillion, juniors Mason Anderson and Blayde Marn and freshman Cole Davidson.
