CCU sinks HU women with last-second free throws

Visiting Cincinnati Christian hit two free throws with one second left to defeat the Huntington University women’s basketball team, 60-58, on Friday afternoon, Dec. 29.

Maddie Richer’s two free throws gave HU, 9-6, a four point lead at 57-53 with 27 seconds left in the game, but Dan’Shae Hill of CCU nailed a three-pointer to pull her team within a point with 16 seconds left. Richer then halved two more free throws before the visitors’ LeTisha Caldwell knotted things at 58-all with a fielder.

Makenzie Tolson then hit two free throws with one second left to give Cincy Christian just its second win in 12 outings.

Richer notched a game-high 22 points to lead HU, and Sarah Fryman added a dozen.

Hill and Tolson each scored 15 points to pace CCU.  Caldwell tossed in 10 points.

Brooke Saylor ripped down 16 rebounds, had four assists and three blocks for HU.

The Foresters hit 22 of 47 shots from the field for 46.8 percent and added 8 of 10 from the free-throw line for 80 percent. The visitors hit 24 of 49 shots from the field for 49 percent and added 5 of 7 from the foul stripe.
