Arens notches 33 but Foresters close 2017 with loss

Tyler Arens banged in 33 points but it wasn’t enough as the Huntington University men’s basketball team closed out 2017 with a 94-76 loss to host Saint Xavier on Saturday, Dec. 30.

The Cougars, 9-7, turned a 12-11 advantage into a 50-34 lead by halftime and never looked back at the Foresters, who fell to 6-10.

Arens hit 15 of 22 shots from the field and added two more at the free-throw line for his third 30-point effort of the season, but he was the only Forester in double figures. Konner Platt added nine points and Mike Bush had eight.

With Arens’ big night, the Foresters wound up hitting 29 of 59 shots from the field for 49.2 percent and 13 of 16 free throw tries for 81.3 percent. The Cougars hit 35 of 60 shots from the field for 58.3 percent and notched 17 of 18 free throws for 94.4 percent.

Saint Xavier was led by Quinn Niego with 25 points and Jack Brody with 20.

Bush had four assists for HU.
