Shaw leads swimgirls past Jay County

Sophomore Laney Shaw won two individual events and was part of a winning relay team to lead the Huntington North High School girls’ swim team past host Manchester, 116-53.

Shaw led top-three sweeps in both events she won. She took the 50-yard freestyle in :28.24 to lead teammates Anna Manry and Sara Lacey across the finish line, respectively. She also sped to a clocking of 1:12.13 to win the 100-yard backstroke, with Alyssa Brinkman placing second and Morgan Cogar taking third.

Cogar got a solo win of her own on the night, taking the 500-yard freestyle in 6:39.80, with Brinkman placing second.

Allie Aschliman and Macy Lange also came up victorious for the Lady Vikes. Aschliman took the 200-yard freestyle, in 2:19.51, and Lange led a top-three sweep in the 100-yard freestyle, in 1:03.30, with Manry and Alaya Stroup going 2-3, respectively.

The Lady Vikes also won the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Jule Nogaj, Mandi Lippe, Crosley Stanley and Lacey took the medley relay in 2:10.41, and the quartet of Shaw, Brinkman, Aschliman and Lange took the free relay in 4:26.56.

Aschliman added second place points in the 100-yard butterfly, in 1:06.44, with Stroup taking third, and Lange and Adalyn Harvey went 2-3, respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Harvey placed second in the 200-yard individual medley, in 2:53.43, with Lippe placing third.
