HNHS swimboys back in winning waters

Keegan Mautz and Nathan York posted two wins apiece to lead the Huntington North High School boys’ swim team to an 87-55 victory over host Manchester on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Mautz put forth his golden efforts in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. The junior topped the freestyle in 2:11.15, followed by the butterfly in 1:06.89. York was triumphant in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore posted a time of 2:35.86 in the IM and a clocking of 1:09.24 in the backstroke.

York and Mautz also swam legs on two first-place relay teams for the Vikings. The pair teamed up with senior Conner Mason and freshman Cole Davidson in the 200-yard medley relay, touching the wall in 2:06.20. The duo, along with Mason, then formed a quartet with junior Aidan Miller and won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:15.56.

Individually, Davidson was a two-time runner-up for Huntington North. The rookie claimed silver in the 200-yard individual medley, posting a time of 2:43.56, before claiming second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:24.22.

Mason Anderson swam to the second spot in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at :27.96. The junior also took third in the 100-yard freestyle, stopping the timer in 1:04.03.

Mason and Blayde Marn each put forth a silver effort for the visitors. Mason produced his silver finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:17.00 while Marn logged his runner-up showing in the 100-yard backstroke with a clocking of 1:37.65.

Miller recorded a pair of third-place finishes. He took the bronze spot in the 500 freestyle in 6:32.68 before duplicating that effort in the 100 breaststroke in 1:30.53. Sophomore Jamall Werling rounded out the team’s top-three showings with a third-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:43.10.
