Vikings handcuff DeKalb, 43-28

Coming off a game in which they yielded just 16 points, the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team gave up just four in the first half on the way to a 43-28 win over host DeKalb on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The Vikings gave up just two points in each of the first two quarters on the way to a 24-4 halftime edge and their 14th win in 17 outings this season. They led 36-14 after three quarters of play.

Zach Daugherty hit 8 of 12 shots from the field on the way to a game-high 19 points for HNHS. Sawyer Stoltz added 10 points.

The Vikings hit only 17 of 42 shots from the field for 40.5 percent on the night, but forced DeKalb into a 9 of 36 effort from the field for 25 percent.

Stoltz grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Vikes to a 33-21 glass advantage.

The Vikings’ junior varsity squeaked out a 47-45 win, coming back from a 13-point deficit to do so.

Devin Newcomb led North with 20 points. Aidan Hosler added 10 points.

The JV Vikes are 8-5 on the season.
