Aschliman leads several Lady Vike swimmers to sectional finals

Allie Aschliman, a sophomore on the Huntington North High School girls’ swim team, punched her ticket to the finals of the Warsaw Sectional with a pair of qualifying placements at the preliminary meet on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Any swimmer placing in the top eight of a race advanced to the sectional finals on Saturday, Feb. 3. Competitors finishing ninth through 16th clinched spots in the consolation finals.

Aschliman captured second place in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 200-yard freestyle. She swam the butterfly in 1:03.23 and the freestyle in 2:06.66.

Macy Lange moved on to the finals with an eighth-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke. The junior turned in a time of 1:17.78. She also earned a spot in the consolation finals with a 10th-place effort in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:00.38.

Lange and Aschliman also swam legs on two relay teams that qualified for the finals. Teaming up with sophomores Alyssa Brinkman and Laney Shaw in both races, the quartet swam the 200-yard medley relay in 2:06.00, then posted a time of 4:08.70 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Shaw secured a pair of spots in the consolation finals, claiming ninth in the 100 freestyle and 14th in the 200 freestyle. She finished the former race in 1:00.27 and the latter in 2:15.34.

Brinkman and sophomore Alayna Stroup claimed 15th and 16th place, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke to round out the Lady Vikings’ individual qualifiers for the meet’s second day. Brinkman clocked in at 1:14.93 while Stroup touched the wall in 1:15.85.

Huntington North also advanced to the consolation finals in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Junior Crosley Stanley and freshmen Adalyn Harvey, Rebekah Brunner and Anna Manry submitted a clocking of 2:08.47.
