HU diamond men drop another pair to Reinhardt

The Huntington University baseball team got swept by host Reinhardt University, 3-2 and 4-0, on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The opening contest saw Huntington knot the game up twice before ultimately succumbing to Reinhardt. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, which the Foresters erased with a solo tally of their own in the top of the fourth. The hosts went up again, 2-1, in the fifth, only to see the visitors deadlock the tilt at 2-2 in the seventh. Reinhardt, however, wasted no time breaking that tie, taking a 3-2 lead in its half of the seventh that stood up.

Colton Punches took the loss on the mound for Huntington. The senior, 0-1, yielded six hits and all three of Reinhardt’s runs in 6.2 innings. He also struck out four and walked one.

Freshman Hunter Losekamp paced the Forester offense with a solo home run.

The Eagles’ Connor Hawkins earned the win. The hurler permitted just one run and one hit in 2.2 frames. He fanned two and walked five.

The Reinhardt offense was led by Daniel Rodriguez, who tallied two hits, one of which was a homer, and two runs batted in.

In the second game, the Eagles stifled the Foresters at the plate. Coach Mike Frame’s squad mustered just one hit against Reinhardt starter Kevin Ross, followed by a single base poke versus reliever Heriberto Casasola.

Ross claimed the victory, tossing five innings, during which time he struck out three and issued no walks. Casasola threw the final two frames, fanning four while walking only one.

The Eagles’ Kaleb Swayze backed up his pitchers with two hits and an RBI.

DJ Moore took the defeat for Huntington. The junior, 0-1, allowed six hits and three earned runs in five innings. He also notched five strikeouts while dispensing one walk.

Senior Jamar Weaver and freshman Daniel Lichty produced the Foresters’ pair of hits.

The Foresters are now 0-4.
