HU diamond men short at Cumberlands

The Huntington University baseball team came up short in all three contests with host University of the Cumberlands over the weekend as it dropped to 0-9 on the year.

The Foresters lost a doubleheader on Friday, March 2, 5-4 and 4-2, and got shaded 1-0 on Saturday, March 3.

The Foresters were up 4-3 in the final inning of the first contest Friday, but Cumberland, 12-3, pushed across two runs in the bottom of the frame against reliever Tarrin Beachy to get the win.

Adam Roser had three hits to lead HU, which also got two safeties apiece from Jake Hansen and Hunter Losekamp. Jamar Weaver had a pair of runs batted in.

Mason Shinabery started and went the first six innings on the mound, giving up three earned runs on six hits, with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Cumberland pushed across two runs in the sixth inning of the second game for what proved to be the game-winners.

The Foresters got only two hits in the contest.

Alex McCutcheon got tagged with the loss, pitching one inning of relief and yielding two earned runs on two hits, with a strikeout and walk. D.J. Moore went the first five frames, yielding two earned runs on four hits, with three strikeouts and one walk.

Cumberlands got the lone run of the afternoon on Saturday in the second inning. Huntington’s Conner West went all six innings and yielded just one hit, but the hit was a home run that Cumberlands’ Daniel Diaz knocked over the left field fence. West had four strikeouts and five walks in the outing.

The Foresters got three hits off two Cumberland pitchers.
