Viking trackboys ninth at New Haven Indoor Invite

The Huntington North High School boys’ varsity track team finished ninth at the New Haven Indoor Invitational, held Saturday, March 3, at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

The Vikings tallied 23 points at the meet, which was a qualifying event for the Hoosier State Relays. Carroll topped the meet with a register of 125.5.

Damon Kaylor posted Huntington North’s best finish at the meet, placing third in shot put with a throw of 46-3. Mitch McElhaney took 10th for the Vikes, tossing the grey ball 39-1.25.

Brock Spahr claimed sixth place in the 3,200-meter run. The junior clocked in at 10:02.71. Senior Aaron Hendryx finished two spots after him, taking eighth in 10:13.35.

Huntington North’s 4,000-meter distance medley relay team posted a sixth-place finish. The squad, which was comprised of Andrew Sizemore, Kasey Konz, Jacob Wust and Jackson Wright, stopped the timer in 11:44.55.

The 1,600-meter relay team took seventh place. That quartet, consisting of Carson Bolinger, Caleb Smith, Jacob Hall and Konz, crossed the finish line in 3:46.62.

The 800-meter relay saw the Vikings finish eighth. The Huntington North foursome of Nate Burns, Drew Nash, Jonah Bussard and Nolan Hughes posted a time of 1:41.34.

Smith and Bolinger rounded out the team’s top 10 finishes. Smith tied for seventh in high jump with a leap of 5-8 while Bolinger placed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles in :9.28.
