HU gets first win of season in rout

The Huntington University baseball team picked up its first win of the season with a 13-1 rout of University of Cincinnati-Clermont College at University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, March 3.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Foresters, 1-9, blew the game wide open in the third, plating nine runs. The Cougars countered with their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth before Coach Mike Frame’s squad brought the tilt’s scoring to a close with three more tallies in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman Nick Davit led Huntington’s offensive attack with two hits, one of which was a home run, and three runs batted in. Sophomore Donovan Clark, junior Jake Hansen and junior Adrian Perez each banged out two hits and as many RBI. Of Perez’s two hits, one was a dinger.

Senior Jamar Weaver plated two runs while freshman Daniel Lichty logged a hit and an RBI to round out the Foresters’ big day at the plate.

Perez, Davit and junior Adam Roser each scored two runs for Huntington. Roser also banged out two hits for the Glen Men, who finished with 12 for the game.

On the mound, Colton Punches picked up the first win of his Forester career. The senior, 1-1, tossed the first six innings, yielding nine hits and one earned run while racking up seven strikeouts.
