Crop grower workshops March 22 in Huntington, Bluffton

Crop grower workshops are set for Thursday, March 22, in Huntington and Bluffton.

The sessions are at First Merchants Bank Heritage Hall at the Huntington County Fairgrounds and at the Wells County Extension Office located at 1240 4-H Park Rd. in Bluffton.

The sessions will include state-required training for applicators working with the new dicamba herbicide products of Engenia, FeXapan and Xtendimax. A second topic is on soil sampling to monitor nutrient levels.

Jason Ackerson, assistant professor in the Purdue Agronomy Department, will be presenting the soil sampling topic.  Ed Farris, Purdue Extension educator in Huntington County, and Bill Horan, Purdue Extension educator in Wells County, are providing the dicamba product training. Light refreshments will be served at each location.

The Huntington County program will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Reservations are due by March 19 by calling 358-4826 or e-mailing em farris@purdue.edu.

The Wells County program will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Reservations are due by March 19 by calling 824-6412 or e-mailing horan@purdue.edu.

These workshops are approved Indiana Private Applicator Recertification Programs.  A fee is required for those who wish to obtain recertification credit for attending the program.

Attendees who wish to obtain credit are reminded to bring their Indiana Private Pesticide Applicator license number with them.  Additionally, the workshops are approved for commercial applicator credits through the Office of Indiana State Chemist.
