The Huntington County Republican Party held its executive committee caucus Saturday, March 7, at Habecker Dining Commons on the campus of Huntington University.

Kris Underwood, who has served as the board's secretary for the past two years, received 33 of 52 votes for the county chairman, defeating position opponent Andy Zay.

Underwood explained his goals, saying, "Whatever it takes to get members of our party elected in November is what I'm willing to do."

He expects challenges within the party and hopes to keep the party united.

"We need to stay together as one as a party," he said. "We need to stay a whole and not be negative towards each other ... We need to support each other one hundred per cent."

Gennie Guhl was unanimously voted in as the party's vice chair. She has volunteered for the party for more than 20 years.

Tina Stevens was named secretary, earning 31 votes, 10 more than opponent David Lee.

Kathy Juillerat also received 31 votes to win the position of party treasurer. She faced Kendall Mickley in the vote.
Juillerat served as the party's secretary prior to becoming treasurer.

The new board members took office Monday, March 9, and will retain their positions for four years.
