Tickets now avaialble for Run for the Rams

Run for the Rams, a dinner-auction that serves as the major fund-raiser for Huntington Catholic School, has a new location and new features this year.

The event will be held Saturday, May 2, and tickets are now available from either the Huntington Catholic Primary Building, 356-2320, or the Huntington Catholic Middle Building, 356-1926. The reservation deadline is April 15.

"We just wanted to add a little more excitement this year," says Run for the Rams Chairman Sue Scheiber, explaining the addition of the interactive games to this year's event.

Guests at the dinner can purchase tickets to participate in games of chance, including a high-low card game, a counting game, a new version of heads or tails and a trivia game. A round of reverse bingo will feature prizes from Bowers Jewelry.

Also new this year is a "computer roundup." At the end of the evening, guests will be given the opportunity to round up the total price of their auction purchases, with the additional amount used to update computers at Huntington Catholic.

Guests can also pick leaves from a "giving tree," which lists items teachers would like to have for their classrooms, and purchase those items for the school.

This year's Run for the Rams, the 10th annual, will be held at the Huntington P.A.L. Club on Riverside Drive. Past years' events had been held at the North Star Civic Center.
First Federal Savings Bank is the corporate sponsor for the event. Dinner sponsors are Johnson Junction, Our Sunday Visitor and BSB Investments.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with a catered dinner served buffet-style at 6:30 p.m. The evening's menu includes salad, bread, roast beef, chicken, garlic roast potatoes, gourmet green beans and an assortment of desserts.
Appetizers and post-meal snacks will be served, and a limited open bar is included. Dress is semi-formal, with no jacket or tie required.

Items offered in the silent auction will be available for viewing beginning at 5 p.m., and the interactive games will be available from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

A live auction will be held after the dinner. A popular item from last year, a guided bird hunt for up to six hunters, will again be offered in the auction. The hunt will also include an evening meal for the hunters and guests featuring the take of the day and other items.

The live auction will also include items handcrafted by students in each of the classrooms, with all of the items having a crucifix theme. Auction items are also contributed by the priests and sisters associated with the school.
Discounts on the per-ticket price are available for packages of six tickets or a table of 10. Businesses also have the opportunity to sponsor tables, which will bear advertising for their companies.

Huntington Catholic School is open to students in preschool through eighth grade. The school receives no state or federal funds to purchase educational equipment, so the funds raised through Run for the Rams help meet the school's annual budget.
