Robert C. 'Bob' Sommer

Robert C. "Bob" Sommer, 82, of Zanesville, died Dec. 16, 2008.

Mr. Sommer was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, and had been employed by U.S. Rubber, Pillsbury and Kmart. He joined the United States Army as a paratrooper in 1944 and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with a Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Luzon Campaign, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and Good Conduct Medal.

He was born May 18, 1926, in Peru, IN, to Emil and Flora Sommer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Artina Sommer.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas Sommer and Jeffrey Sommer, both of Fort Wayne, and Robert Sommer, of Zanesville; a daughter, Vicky Best, of Zanesville; a brother, Thurman Glassburn; a sister, Claudia Pyzyana; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Dec. 20, 2008, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.

Preferred memorials are to Concordia Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
