Paul E. Johnson

Paul E. Johnson, 89, of Markle, died Dec. 20, 2008, at 8:25 a.m. at the Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center, Bluffton.

Mr. Johnson, a graduate of Liberty Center High School, was a dairy farmer. He was a former Wells County 4-H Horse and Pony leader and a member of the Wheels of Yesteryear and the Wells County Coon Hunters Club. He attended Boehmer United Methodist Church and was a member of Masonic Lodge 145, Bluffton, and Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne.

He was born June 28, 1919, in Liberty Center to Estel A. and Orpha Marshall Johnson. He married Nina Gibson on June 6, 1943, in Wells County. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Karen Hunnicutt, of Warren; three sons, Gary P. (Judy) Johnson, of Bluffton; Jerry Eugene Johnson, of Markle; and Steven (Joyce) Johnson, of Berne; a sister, Aileen Mertz, of Bryant; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Masonic funeral rites were conducted Dec. 23, 2008. A funeral service was held Dec. 24, 2008, at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton, with Rev. Barry Humble officiating. Burial was at the Mossburg Cemetery, Liberty Center.

Preferred memorials are gifts to Wells County 4-H, the Bluffton Masonic Lodge or Boehmer United Methodist Church.
