Verlin B. Howard

Verlin Burdun Howard, 81, of Van Buren, died Dec. 24, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion.

Mr. Howard had worked as a truck driver for Weaver Popcorn, Van Buren, for 17 years, retiring in 1991. He had previously lived in Florida for 20 years.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1957 and was a member of American Legion Post 368, Van Buren.

He was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Palestine, IN, to Clair N. and Iva A. Lowman Howard. He married Joan Sparks Dakin on Feb. 14, 1976, in Van Buren. His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Sabra V. Miller, of Nashville, TN; a stepson, Ronnie (Hope) Dakin, of Marion; three stepdaughters, Peggy (Charles) Alter, of Kokomo; Pamela (Robert) Kelley, of LaFontaine; and Cathy (Paul) Herring, of Jacksonville, FL; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildre; and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service was held Dec. 27, 2008, at Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, Van Buren, with Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Interment was at the Van Buren Cemetery.
