HNHS baseball players rid area highways of trash

Students in the Huntington North High School baseball program recently rid area highways of 11 large bags of trash.

The baseball program, which includes approximately 40 students on three teams, volunteered to clean up two state highways near Huntington as part of the Indiana Department of Transportation's "Adopt-A-Highway" program.

A group of the students spent the morning of Saturday, Nov. 3, picking up trash along Ind.-5 north of Huntington, from Ind.-16 two miles to the north, and along Ind-5, from U.S.-224 two miles to the south.

New Hope Church offers dinner show

New Hope Church will host a dinner theater on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and 2, with performances at 6 p.m. each night.

"Uncle Phil's Diner" is a musical event set in a 1950s environment. It is an interactive dinner theater production.

The menu will be a typical 1950s meal consisting of hamburgers, fries, soup, ice cream sundaes and drinks.

The cast is made up of young servers, who will sing music from the 1950s.

HU, community chorus to present ‘Messiah’ Dec. 2 at St. Mary Church

The Huntington University Concert Choir and Orchestra join forces with the Community Festival Chorus for the 58th annual Huntington performance of Handel's "Messiah."

The performance will be held on Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington.

Vocal soloists include HU adjunct faculty member Joni Killian, soprano; junior choral education major Brittany Blazier, alto; IPFW graduate David Eisenhauer, tenor; and graduate student at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Brayton Arvin, baritone.

Jaxson S. Pierce

Infant Jaxson Samuel Pierce, of Warren, IN, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at 4 a.m. in Warren.

He was born Nov. 16, 2012, in Indianapolis to Joe Samuel Pierce and Michelle Nicole Richardson, both of Warren. His parents survive.

Other survivors include a sister, Zoey Richardson, of Warren; maternal grandfather, Steve Richardson, of Wabash; maternal grandmother, Mary Henderson, of Warren; paternal grandfather, Joe Pierce, of Peoples, OH; and paternal grandmother, Paula (Todd) Wright, of Warren.

Robert W. Emmons

Robert W. Emmons, 84, of Huntington, IN, died Monday morning, Nov. 19, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Emmons had been employed by Fisher Body, Marion, for 30 years. He was a member of Union Church and ministered to residents at The Heritage of Huntington. He served two tours with the United States Navy.

He was born March 13, 1928, in Kosciusko County to DeVon and Gladys Dick Emmons. He married Edna DeHaven on June 22, 1987, in Huntington. His wife survives.

Juanita H. 'Nety' Thrasher

Juanita H. "Nety" Thrasher, 85, of Gulfport, MS, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at her home.

Mrs. Thrasher was employed as a secretary for the Huntington Fire Department for 13 years, retiring in May of 2000. She had previously worked at Utrad. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Huntington, an honorary member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority and a charter member of the Dandelion Club.
