New Tech students team with FW Rescue Mission to collect backpacks, supplies

Viking New Tech students at Huntington North High School will join with the Rescue Mission of Fort Wayne to collect backpacks and supplies for distribution to those in need.

The students are working with the Backpacks of Hope program, established in memory of Huntington resident John Zachery Septer.

The students will accept donations on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Door 3 of HNHS.

Craft show, bake sale at Monson

Monson Chapel United Methodist Church will host a craft show and bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to take pictures with Santa and lunch will be served.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day and a raffle will be held for the chance to win an afghan.

The church is located at 12220 Lower Huntington Rd., behind General Motors.

 

Huntington University musical will open Nov. 8 on Merillat stage

The Huntington University Theatre Company will present "Urinetown: The Musical" Nov. 8-17.

The story takes place after a catastrophic drought, when all private toilets are outlawed in order to preserve water. A single corporation maintains a monopoly over all public amenities, forcing the destitute masses to pay large fees to carry out their basic needs. The leader of a revolution against the corporation unknowingly falls in love with the daughter of the company's owner.

Hurlburt attends AIC conference in Indianapolis

Huntington County Commissioner Leon Hurlburt recently attended the Association of Indiana Counties' (AIC) annual conference in Indianapolis.

Hurlburt was among more than 500 county officials who attended the event Sept. 23 to 26.

The conference offered county officials a wide variety of professional development courses as well as opportunities to network with their peers.

Several state officials also provided updates on pertinent issues that assist with the betterment of county government.

Fourth-graders at Huntington Catholic School researched a specific saint, even creating a costume to dress like the saint, in preparation for the observation of All Saints' Day on Nov. 1.
