Three HU women bowlers in top 25 at Boilermaker Classic

Three members of the Huntington University women's bowling team finished in the top 25 individually out of the 172 bowlers at the Boilermaker Classic at Mike Aulby's Arrowhead Bowl in Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 27, and Sunday, Oct. 28, to spur the team to a seventh place finish out of 16 teams.

Casandra Griffith averaged a 182.2 in the five regular team games on Saturday to lead the Foresters and finish 15th individually. Ayla Yeiter averaged a 182.2, Emily O'Leary averaged a 179.6 and the two finished 22nd and 25th, respectively, to complete Huntington's trio in the top 25.

HU men keglers struggle at Boilermaker Classic

The Huntington University men's bowling team finished 20th out of 21 teams at the Boilermaker Classic at Mike Aulby's Arrowhead Bowl in Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 27, and Sunday, Oct. 28.

Kris Kasson averaged a 166.6 across five games for a total of 833 to lead the Foresters and make 87th place individually. Tyler Neff averaged a 158.6 for 98th place and Connor Brown averaged a 156.2 for 101st.

Timing of prosecutor's decision irks Roanoke council

The Roanoke Town Council and Roanoke Town Court Judge Bobby Turpin met in a special session on Tuesday, Oct. 30, to discuss the ramifications of Huntington County Prosecutor Amy Richison's recent determination that all traffic violations in Huntington County be filed through the Huntington Superior Court.

The most significant ramification of Richison's decision is the probable closure of the court. The court relies upon the revenue from fines assessed during traffic violations to stay in operation.

Phyllis J. Snow

Phyllis J. Snow, 80, of Andrews, IN, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at 6:45 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, in Huntington, IN.

Mrs. Snow worked at Wabash Magnetics in Huntington prior to working as a bartender at the American Legion in Lagro and at a sports bar in Andrews. She retired from the Legion in 1995. She was a member of the Andrews Brethren Church and the American Legion Post 85 Ladies Auxiliary of Huntington.

Council says no to 4-H farm animals being kept in city limits

Rules that, for the most part, keep farm animals outside the city limits of Huntington will remain in place.

Members of the Huntington Common Council voted 5-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 30, to make no changes to its animal control ordinance. The ordinance requires that anyone keeping animals that are commonly considered farm animals to have a minimum of five acres of land, a lot size uncommon inside the city limits.

James A. 'Jim' Miller

James A. "Jim" Miller, 65, of Fairfield, OH, and having family members in Warren, IN, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in Fairfield, OH.

Mr. Miller worked in the retail industry. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Fairfield, OH.

He was born Nov. 29, 1946, in Marion to Homer and Thelma Andrews Miller. His mother survives. He married Susan K. Grusbeck in 1966 in Roanoke. His wife survives.

Lady Vikings 20th at state cross country finals

The Huntington North High School girls' cross country team finished 20th out of 24 teams at the IHSAA Girls' Cross Country State Finals in Terre Haute on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The scoring was close as the Lady Vikings' tally of 422 was just 18 points off the 15th place finisher's mark.

The top three finishers for Huntington North were seniors, led by Kayla Patrick, who finished 46th among scoring runners in 19:46. Next was Robyn Karst, who placed 59th in 19:57. Marie Ditzler took 78th place in 20:12 to complete the senior trio.

County health department to have flu shot clinic in Warren

The Huntington County Health Department will have a flu shot clinic for adults at the Warren Pharmacy on Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There is a cost for the shot and payments will be accepted only by cash or check.

Patients with Medicaid or Medicare must present a currently active Medicaid or Medicare card.
Residents of neighboring counties are welcome to attend.
