First Federal announces new staff member, promotion at city branch

First Federal Savings Bank has announced the addition of Donnie Haire to its staff as a mortgage and consumer lender and the promotion of Tara Hunnicutt to mortgage loan processing clerk.

Both will work at the North Jefferson Street office in Huntington.

Haire holds a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and has 15 years of banking experience. He currently resides in Angola with his wife, Julie, and their two sons. They are members of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Angola.

Central Christian to sponsor fish fry

Central Christian Church, 500 MacGahan St., Huntington, will hold an all-you-can-eat Dan's Fish and Tenderloin supper on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The menu includes meat, green beans, choice of applesauce or slaw, bread, drinks and pie with ice cream.

Tickets are available in advance from church members or by calling the church office at 356-8154.

Tickets will also be available at the door, and a drive-through carry-out will be available at the canopy door.

The dinner is sponsored by the church's evangelism department.

 

Salon has new nail tech

Heather McFarren has joined Create-A-Kut as a nail technician.

McFarren, a 2001 graduate of Huntington North High School, graduated from Huntington Beauty College in 2012.

She is accepting walk-ins on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Services are available by appointment only on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Vendors sought for church craft show

New Hope United Brethren Church will hold a craft show on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The show will be held in the church's Family Life Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Interested vendors can reserve a space, which includes two eight-foot tables, by depositing a non-refundable fee. Direct sales consultants are welcome. The registration deadline is Oct. 8.

The show is sponsored by the New Hope Women's Ministry Team.

The church is located at 2001 Engle St., Huntington.

The park in Andrews used to look like a ghost town.

"Townspeople didn't even care to come up here," says Andrews resident and park liaison Linda Wright.

And it's not hard to see why, as the park had fallen into a state of disrepair after many years of neglect.

Since being appointed park liaison in 2009, Wright has done everything she can to change the park's reputation.

Haunted Hotel guests will be kept in the dark

Nyctophobia, the fear of the dark, is the theme for Thursdays this month at the Haunted Hotel-13th Floor in Huntington.

On Thursdays only, lights will be shut off and groups of two to three people will proceed through the hotel with only a small flashlight to light the way.

"It's a first for the area," says Manager Brett Molitor.

The event will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. every Thursday through Oct. 31.

Oct. 9 is registration deadline for voting in Nov. 6 election

Anyone who wants to vote in the Nov. 6 election has until Tuesday, Oct. 9, to make sure they're registered.

Voters must be United States citizens, must be 18 by the date of the general election and must have lived in their precinct for at least 30 days before the election.
Anyone currently serving time in jail may not vote; they must re-register after being released from jail.

Anyone who has moved or has had a name change must also re-register.

Mt. Etna United Methodist bazaar is on Oct. 27

Mt. Etna United Methodist Church's annual Food and Craft Bazaar will be held on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Some of this year's offerings include Tastefully Sinful, greeting cards, Miche bags, wood crafts, Christmas ornaments, jewelry, candles, pet toys, doll clothes, craft supplies from Cozy Creations from Marion, stoneware and more.

In addition, the United Methodist women will sell their homemade pies, noodles, soup and many other baked goods. There will also be pumpkin rolls that may be frozen and kept for Thanksgiving.

Kroozinationals will rev up car shows, contests at Hier’s Park this weekend

Two separate Kroozinationals car shows over two days will be offered Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7, at Hier's Park in Huntington.

The Ed "Big Daddy" Roth Memorial Car, Truck and Bike Show, paying tribute to the late custom car artist Ed Roth, is set for Saturday. Roth's widow, Ilene "Trixie" Roth, will be a guest at the show.

Registration is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dash plaques will be awarded to the first 250 vehicles to pay the entry fee. Drive-through judging starts at 10 a.m.

Korea vets to meet in Fort Wayne

The monthly meeting of the Korean War Veterans Association, Indiana Chapter One, will be held on Oct. 13 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post located at 2202 W. Main St., Fort Wayne.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m., with lunch and social hour to be held following the meeting.

Friends and spouses are invited to attend.
