Sixteen youth graduate from Leadership Academy

Huntington County Leadership hosted its 2012 Youth Leadership graduation ceremony on Sunday, March 4, at the Crestview Middle School auditorium.

The 2012 graduating class of 16 is the 10th academy of students to graduate from the HCL youth leadership program.

Throughout the academy year, students attended a weekend retreat held at Epworth Forest, took tours of local government offices, learned about local industries including Our Sunday Visitor and Gerdau, toured St. Felix Oratory and the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA.

ArtsExpress hits 20th anniversary

The artistic talents of Huntington County students will be on display at the 20th anniversary edition of ArtsExpress.

Visual and performing arts, as well as a chance for guests to create some of their own art, are featured during the festival of fine arts, to be held Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crestview Middle School.

This year's theme is "Arts for Life."

New clowns to perform at ceremony on Sunday, March 25

Joy Pleasers Clown Ministry will hold its graduation ceremony on Sunday, March 25, at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntington.

Nine new clowns who recently completed an eight-week training program will present a program of skits.

The program will be followed by a commissioning ceremony.
The public is invited to attend.

Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 530 Guilford St., Huntington.

 

Banks champions bill to streamline college transfer policies

State Sen. Jim Banks' education initiative that will streamline academic credit transfer policies between universities in the Hoosier state was signed into law Friday by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

"Indiana college students will no longer waste time and money re-taking courses," says Banks, R-Columbia City.

Banks said Senate Enrolled Act 182 would not only increase the amount of credits that can be transferred among all state educational institutions but also the transparency in higher education, better ensuring students know whether their courses are transferable.

Forks seeks items for fund-raiser garage sale

The Historic Forks of the Wabash is seeking donations for a fund-raising garage sale to be held on March 31.

Proceeds from the sale will go toward funding the new museum addition at the Forks.

Donations of clothing and other miscellaneous items will be accepted on March 29 from 9 a.m. to noon and on March 30 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Forks' museum addition.

The sale will be held at the museum addition on March 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Revival will open Friday at Bethesda Free Will Baptist Church in Andrews

Bethesda Free Will Baptist Church, in Andrews, will host a revival, March 23-25.

Service times are:

• Friday, March, 23, at 6:30 p.m., featuring guest singers Gospel Lights.

• Saturday, March 24, at 6:30 p.m., featuring vocalist Judith Montgomery.

• Sunday, March 25, at 10:30 a.m., featuring Montgomery. The message will be given by Bethesda pastor Rev. Todd Masters.

• Sunday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m., featuring the Denham Free Will Baptist Church Singers.

Lancaster High School sets alumni banquet

The Lancaster High School (Huntington County) Alumni Banquet for all graduates, former students and teachers will be held April 21, at the Lancaster Elementary School gymnasium.
Registration will begin at 5 p.m. with the banquet served at 6 p.m. There is a cost per person and advance reservations are required.

Those who cannot attend dinner are encouraged to come at 7 p.m. for fellowship and entertainment provided by Damon Bailey, the "singing auctioneer." The evening program will include recognition of the honored classes of 1932, 1942, 1952 and 1962.
