Lady Eagles fall in national homeschool tourney opener

Poor shooting and foul trouble did in the Lady Eagles homeschool basketball team in its opening game at the National Home-School Basketball Tournament on Monday, March 19, in Springfield, MO, as it lost to Nashville, 51-40.

Catherine Weaver, in her first game back after a bout with mononucleosis, scored 15 points in limited action to lead the Lady Eagles, but Nashville used its superior size to overcome Weaver and company.

William M. Mongold Jr.

William Marshall Mongold Jr., 79, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at 4:48 a.m. at the Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Mongold was a 1951 graduate of Muncie Central High School and attended Indiana Business College. He worked at Noll Printing for more than 25 years, retiring in 1995. He had also worked at Benham Printing, in Marion, for 15 years and worked for the Heart Association for several years. He was a member and past president of Graphic Communications International Union (GCIU) Local 411.

Roy R. Krudop

Roy R. Krudop, 70, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at 6:05 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Krudop graduated from Northside High School, Fort Wayne, in 1961. He worked for Kunkle Valve, in Fort Wayne, for more than 20 years. He was the 1960 Ohio champion and the 1977 Indiana champion in the Great Lakes Open archery competition.

He was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Fort Wayne to Jack and Betty Racine Krudop.

Nina R. Sluder

Nina R. Sluder, 78, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 8:20 p.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren, IN.

A former resident of Montpelier, Mrs. Sluder was a member of the Pleasantdale United Methodist Church and the Nimble Neighbors Home Economics Club.

She was born June 19, 1933, in Sullivan County to Zelva C. and Opal Harmon Drake. She married Lee O. Sluder on Aug. 18, 1951, in Sullivan County. Her husband survives.

Lavon E. Tucker

Lavon E. Tucker, 91, a resident of Lutheran Home, Fort Wayne, IN, and a native of Huntington County, IN, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at her home.

Mrs. Tucker, a former resident of Columbia City, attended Huntington High School. She had worked in the dietary department of Lutheran Hospital for 15 years. She had been a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, and St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbia City. She volunteered at the Emmaus School library.

Wilma A. Simon

Wilma A. Simon, 99, of Jefferson Township, Whitley County, IN, and a native of Huntington County, IN, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Renaissance Village.

Mrs. Simon graduated from Roanoke High School in 1930. She had farmed in Jefferson Township, Whitley County, since 1955. She was a member of Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church, Friends & Neighbors Club and Jefferson Extension Homemakers Club.
