Six seek Miss Huntington title

Six young women are in the running for the title of Miss Huntington 2012.

The new royalty will be selected during the Miss Huntington Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, March 24. The pageant begins at 5 p.m. at Central Christian Church.

Participants will compete in interview, talent, swimsuit and evening wear segments.

The winner will be crowned by the reigning Miss Huntington, Mindi Hoffman. The new title-holder will compete in the Miss Indiana Pageant, to be held in Zionsville in June.

Local YSB to offer seven-week course on challenges of parenting children

The Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County will be offering a seven-week series addressing the challenges of raising pre-adolescents and adolescents beginning April 4 through May 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Class will cover such things as:

• Why it is hard to say "No" to children while learning why it is important to do so.

• Provide techniques to assist parents in enhancing structure and consistency within their homes.

Alzheimer group to meet on April 11

The next meeting of the local Alzheimer's Association support group is April 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Participants in support groups receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with the problems they face, and the latest in information regarding research.

All meetings are confidential and free of charge.

Several fund-raisers are being planned to help pay for the furnace, including an auction to be held May 5 at the lodge. Women of the Moose will provide concessions.

United States Senate candidates’ reps to speak at Quayle Center

Representatives of the two men seeking the Republican nomination for United States Senate will speak Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at the Quayle Vice Presidential Learning Center, Huntington.

Representatives of incumbent Richard Lugar and challenger Richard Mourdock will present the candidates' positions on the issues. They will also answer questions from the audience.

The event is free, but a free-will offering will be accepted.

The evening is sponsored by the Huntington County Tea Party.

 

Apps out for PHH Guild Scholarship

Applications are now available for the Parkview Huntington Hospital Guild Scholarship.

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2012-2013 school year.

Applicants must be a relative of a current Guild member in good standing for at least one year prior to applying and/or a relative of a current PHH employee.

Preference is given to students enrolled in a health-related field. Awards are based on financial need, and recipients must complete the school year for which the scholarship is awarded or refund the money in case of early withdrawal from college.
