Christmas program for HU Foundation breakfast

The Huntington University Foundation Breakfast will be presenting a Christmas program, December 14.

This Christmas variety show will feature performances from "Tis the Season: A Christmas Celebration." Excerpts from the performance will feature HU students.

The Foundation Breakfast is open to the public and will begin at 7:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons and will conclude by 9 a.m. There is a cost for the breakfast, however first-time attendees eat free courtesy of Bailey-Love Mortuary.

Learning about autism

Cathy Pratt, Ph.D., of the Indiana Resource Center for Autism addresses a group of representatives from local organizations such as the Bowen Center, Huntington Head Start and Kids Kampus on Tuesday morning, Nov. 29 at Horace Mann Education Center. Pratt, who serves on the Board of the National Autism Society, explained the difficulties faced by children with autism, including adhering to social norms.

Santa on the way

Santa Claus will be available at Little Blessings Childcare Ministry on Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 7 p.m. to meet with area children. With Santa is Amanda Ballard, a staff member of Little Blessings. Children can have pictures taken with Santa, color a Christmas page and enjoy cookies and punch, all at no charge. Pictures can be picked up at Little Blessings on Friday, Dec. 9, between 6 and 7 p.m. Little Blessings is located at 1226 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, at Christ the King Episcopal Church.

Central Apartments celebrates opening with ribbon-cutting

The official opening of Central Apartments in downtown Huntington was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The yellow brick building, which served as a school from 1928 until 2004, now holds 35 one and two bedroom apartments ranging in size from 702 to 1,412 square feet.

Residency is open to people 55 and older who meet income requirements, with rent based on the tenant's income and the size of the apartments.

The monthly rental fee ranges from $198 to $625 and includes all utilities except electricity.

Andrews Lions Club to hold Christmas craft show Dec. 10

The Andrews Lions Club will hold a Christmas craft show on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The show will take place at the Andrews Lions Community Building located at 365 Leedy Lane, Andrews (across from Andrews Elementary School).

The show will feature Christmas decorations, candles, jewelry and much more.

Photos with Santa Claus will also be offered or those attending may bring their own camera.

The Lions Club will also be having its annual fruit sales of oranges or grapefruit in either full or half boxes.

 

Gourd decorating is topic of next Senior Lunch at Salamonie IC

Individuals age 50 or older are invited to enjoy turning a small simple gourd into a holiday decoration at the next Seniors' Lunch, on Monday, Dec. 5 at the Salamonie Interpretive Center.

The program kicks off with the meal at 12:30 p.m. The meat dish will be provided by Upper Wabash Interpretive Services (UWIS).

Seniors should bring a dish to pass, their own table service and $1 donation to help defray the cost of the provided meat dish.

Huntington County Master Gardeners grew the gourds at Salamonie, and will lead the decorating session.

Fuel Up Challenge

Nutrition and Dairy Council directors from Indianapolis visited to judge the recipe contest, watch a performance from her aerobics class and present Ehinger with Colts tickets.

Credit unions gather food

Representatives from credit unions in Huntington County deposit items into a collection bin for Love INC at Beacon Credit Union. Food will be collected from Monday, Dec. 5 until Friday, Dec. 16. The bins will be located at six area credit unions and at Our Sunday Visitor. Any non-perishable food item or monetary donation will be accepted.

Holiday nails workshop at library for young girls

Girls in grades six through 12 are invited to a holiday nails workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, at Huntington City-Township Public Library, 255 W. Park Drive, Huntington.

Participants will learn tips for proper nail care, how to do their own holiday manicure, and have the chance to browse through the library's books on beauty crafts.

This workshop is free, and all materials will be provided.
Refreshments will be served.

Registration is required to attend, and space may be limited.
