Identity theft program at library in Warren

The Warren Public Library will be presenting an identity theft and protection program, Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The program will be presented by Rick Oatess. A retired Indiana State Police officer, Oatess served as a trooper, investigator and criminalist specializing in latent prints, footwear, tire tracks and physical comparison. He is currently the Independent Alliance Banks Security and Facilities Officer for MarkleBank and Grabill Bank.

The program, which is sponsored by MarkleBank, will offer ways for those in attendance to protect themselves against possible thefts.

HU student Paige Bontrager gets recognition from college group

Huntington University sophomore Paige Bontrager was recognized as an outstanding first-generation student by the Independent Colleges of Indiana.

Made possible by a grant to ICI from the Lilly Endowment, "Realizing the Dream" recognizes the triumphs of first-generation students in their first year of college.

Bontrager, a nursing student from Shipshewana, has demonstrated superior academic performance during her first year of studies and exhibited leadership in campus or community activities, according to ICI.

Pleasant Chapel to serve supper Nov. 12

Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church will hold its fall tenderloin supper on Nov. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Fresh tenderloin, both breaded and grilled, will be served. There is a charge for the meal.

There will also be a bazaar and bake sale.

Proceeds from the bazaar and bake sale go to the Christmas Families Fund.

Pleasant Chapel is located on CR 1100N at CR 100E.

 

HCCSC receives AEDs for all school buildings

Huntington County Community Schools rec-ently received Zoll AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) for all the buildings in the corporation.

The AED training units were purchased by the School Child Emergency Fund, which helps with the needs of children within the school district.

Donations are accepted to fund this organization. Checks can be made out to School Child Emergency Fund, Claudia Thompson, vice president of School Child Emergency Fund, or to Douglas Hinthorn, treasurer, at either of the following addresses:

Pleasant Grove sets homecoming

Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, located at 500W-100N in Huntington, invites the community to their annual Homecoming Celebration Worship Service starting at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 13.

The service will be led by Pastors Michael and Aleta Heath.

Music will be presented by the Shultz Family of Cottonwood Music Studio.

Members, family and friends are invited to meet at Sirloin Stockade in Marion for lunch following the service. Those in attendance will be responsible for the price of their meal.

GOP, Dems will have election gatherings

The Huntington County Republican Party will gather at The New Huntington Theater to watch election results come in.
Doors to the downtown theater will open at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Light refreshments will be available. The public is invited to attend.

The Huntington County Democrat Party will gather in the new banquet room at the Rusty Dog.

The group will meet starting at approximately 7:30 p.m.

 

Fertilizer certification exams set

A new rule for individuals either applying ag fertilizer for hire or applying manure from confined feeding operations takes effect on Jan. 1, 2012 (Category 14 certification). Exam testing dates have been set for northern Indiana locations in November.

Three sites are hosting the Category 14 exam in November. Exam information IS as follows:

• Nov. 16 - Community Building, LaGrange County 4-H Fairgrounds. Registration: 499-6334. Training Time: 1-4 p.m. Exam Time: 4-5:30 p.m.
