PHH hosts Alzheimer’s support group meeting

The next local meeting of the Alzheimer's support group is Nov. 9, at 10:30 a.m., at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Participants in support groups receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with the problems they face, and the latest in information regarding research.

All meetings are confidential and free of charge.

The hospital is located at 2001 Stults Rd., Huntington.

 

Salamonie COB offers treats and soup Oct. 30

Salamonie Church of the Brethren will hold a community Trunk ‘N' Treat on Sunday, Oct. 30.

The event will start at 4:30 to 6 p.m. Prizes for all types of costumes will be awarded at 6:15 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

The community is invited to a free soup supper from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Hog roast is Saturday at Etna Wesleyan Church

Etna Avenue Wesleyan Church will host a hog roast as a youth fund-raiser on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The menu includes pork, green beans, applesauce, sauerkraut hot dogs for kids, desserts and a drink.
Carry-out will be available.

There is a cost for tickets, with a discount for children ages 4 to 10 years old. Children 3 years and younger are free of charge.

Lady Vike bowlers third at South Bend Invitational

The Huntington North High School girls' bowling team opened its 2011-12 campaign with a third place finish at the South Bend Clay Invitational Sunday afternoon, Oct. 16, at Chippewa Bowl.

The Lady Vikes, fifth place in last February's state finals, defeated Jimtown 370-252 in the two-game Baker quarterfinals but lost to Lake Central 344-272 in the semifinals to finish fourth.

Viking bowlers upset at South Bend Invitational

The defending state champion Huntington North Hgih School boys' bowling team was upset by eighth seed Hobart in the Baker quarterfinals and wound up seventh at the South Bend Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 16.

The Vikings returned Tyler Carroll, Connor Brown, Tyler Krepp, Adam Shoemaker and Eli Little from last year's championship team. They led the tournament through qualifying until the finals, when they were upset 361-339 in the round of two-game Baker quarterfinals to finish tied for seventh.

Roger W. 'Peanut' Eller

Roger Wayne "Peanut" Eller, 63, of New Haven, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at 2 a.m. at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Eller was a 1966 graduate of Lancaster Township High School in Huntington County. He served as a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired as a telephone operator for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fort Wayne after working there from 1980 to 1998. He attended the East Allen Church of Christ in New Haven.

Crestview eighth grade volleyball team loses in conference championship

The Crestview eighth grade volleyball team got beaten in the championship game of the NELMSC Tournament by Edgewood on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Crestview won its first three matches before suffering a 17-25, 19-25 loss.

Crestview beat Milford, 25-15, 25-15, in its first match before taking out Indian Springs, 25-22, 25-20, in its second. The Cougar girls stopped Whitko in the third match, 25-21, 25-20.

M. Francile McIntire

M. Francile McIntire, 89, of Warren, IN, died Tuesday, Oct.18, 2011, at 4:29 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, Warren.

Mrs. McIntire had been a member of the Solid Rock United Methodist Church in Warren for many years. She was a homemaker.

She was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Huntington County to John P. and Annis Stroup Kariger. She married Richard O. McIntire on Dec. 19, 1941, in Hartford City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 2001.
