Benefit for Denny Ross set for Saturday at American Legion 85

A benefit for Huntington resident Denny Ross will be held Saturday, March 27, at American Legion Post 85, 1410 S. Jefferson St., Huntington.

Ross has been off work since mid-January, when a sudden blood loss sent him to the hospital and began an ordeal that has included two surgeries, a heart attack and a month-long hospital stay, followed by a another month at Norwood Health and Rehabilitation.

The Huntington County Democrat Club and Party will host Fifth District Congressional candidate Dr. Nasser Hanna on Saturday, April 3, at 9 a.m. at the VFW Post, 220 W. Park Drive, Huntington.

There is an admission charge.

Keiffer announces as Republican candidate for county clerk position

Kittie Keiffer has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination as Huntington County Clerk.

Keiffer, a lifelong Huntington resident, has been actively involved in community service and the business community.

She has established and operates a successful business, RE/MAX Professional Group, and believes she can transfer those skills into the clerk's office.

Red Cross to hold blood drives in April

The American Red Cross of Indiana-Ohio will hold blood drives during the month of April in observance of National Donate Life Month.

The following is a list of local blood drives:

-Wednesday, April 7, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 641 N. Main St., Roanoke.

-Monday, April 12, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 1000 Flaxmill Road, Huntington.

-Thursday, April 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Huntington University, 2303 College Ave., Huntington.

Wall seeks Republican candidacy for 17th District state house seat

Tom Wall, of Huntington County, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 17th District seat in the Indiana State Senate.

Wall, currently in his second year as president of the Huntington County commissioners, has served as president of T.D. Wall, a 62-year-old family business, since 1985.
He is also involved in farming and, in 2008, received the River Friendly Farmer award in recognition of his conservation practices.

He says he has been involved in regional economic development efforts for more than five years.

Beacon Credit Union awards 8 scholarships

Beacon Credit Union has announced eight scholarship winners that were each awarded $500.

Winners are, Mary Elizabeth Farlow, Southwood; Wayne Bunnell, Southwood; Kyle Lahman, Manchester; Brett Matthew Davis, Logansport; Nathan Shrock, Maconaquah; Douglass Wicker, Rush-ville Consolidated; Amanda Ousley, North Miami; Karli Musselman, North Miami.

Huntington County Medical Memorial Foundation is accepting scholarship and grant applications

The Huntington County Medical Memorial Foundation is accepting scholarship and grant applications through April 20.

The foundation was established in 1967 by the Huntington County Medical Society with a goal to improve public health services for residents in Huntington County.

Scholarships are offered to Huntington County residents pursuing degrees in the medical field as well as grant money to organizations providing health services to local residents.

Applications are available in the main office of Bippus State Bank, 150 Hauenstein Rd. in Huntington.

 

Hersey to seek Republican slot for Huntington County Recorder

Debra Robbins Hersey has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for Huntington County Recorder.

Hersey, a resident of Huntington and a graduate of Huntington North High School, earned a bachelor of arts degree from Huntington College. She is currently employed by the Huntington City-Township Public Library, which she says can be likened to the recorder's office in that both serve as reference libraries for the public.

She has also gained experience in working with the public and working with computers in factory, church and school offices.

Felts to seek Republican nomination for clerk job in Huntington County

Fran Felts has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination as Huntington County Clerk.

Felts is the incumbent in that office, having been appointed county clerk in August 2009 after the resignation of former Clerk Vicki Stoffel. She has worked in the clerk's office since 2002, when she joined the staff as a part-time criminal violation deputy. She became a full-time staffer in 2005, working with both Circuit Court and voter registration.
