Dorothy A. Weinley

Dorothy A. Weinley, 73, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at 12:15 p.m. at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Weinley retired from Memcor after 43 years of service as a group leader. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntington.

She was born April 1, 1936, in Huntington to Emerson Dale and Florence Lucille Caley Young. She married Earl Dean Weinley on Sept. 19, 1959, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington. Her husband preceded her in death on May 30, 2002.

Ruby E. Kreisher

Ruby Elizabeth Kreisher, 93, of Markle, IN, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at 5:15 p.m. at the Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Kreisher worked as a custodian at the Markle Medical Center for 25 years. She was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church and had served as the church's financial secretary for 22 years.

She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Huntington County to Dellas M. and Ola L. Fry Dungan. She married Henry E. Kreisher on Oct. 20, 1934, in Bluffton. Her husband preceded her in death on March 19, 1983.

Harold 'Grandpa' Treft

Harold "Grandpa" Treft, 71, of Roanoke, in, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Treft was employed by Cintas as a salesman and driver for 39 years, retiring in 2000. He was a veteran of the United States Marines.

He was born Oct. 10, 1937, in Fort Wayne.

Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Treft, of Roanoke; two sisters, Mary (Arthur) Lee and Pat Hougendobler, both of Fort Wayne; and three grandchildren, Shane (Melissa) Treft, of Fort Wayne; Chris "Trefty" Treft, of Roanoke; and Patrick Slee, of Yoder.

Virgil P. 'Phil' Rowe

Virgil Phillip "Phil" Rowe, 61, of Huntington, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at 1:50 p.m. at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Rowe was employed as circulation manager for The Huntington County TAB. He retired from General Electric Corporation with 38 years of service. He had carried newspapers since he was a young boy, and served as an emergency medical technician.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2689 and was very active on the V.F.W. Military Rites team.

Roanoke set to 'Believe in Magic' at Fall Festival

Huntington County's oldest community festival gets underway Thursday, Sept. 10, as the Roanoke Fall Festival's carnival rides, crafters and street vendors open up shop in Roanoke Park.

The official opening ceremony, a flag raising on Main Street by the American Legion Post 160 color guard, is set for Friday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. Festivities continue through Sunday, Sept. 13.

This year's theme is "Believe in Magic." Most of the activities take place at the Roanoke Park, just a block west of the downtown area.

Scheiber home one of four on Tri Kappa Housewalk

The home of Jeni and Jim Scheiber, 3170E-900N, Roanoke, will be featured in the Tri Kappa Housewalk on Oct. 4.

The house, built in 1999, has been occupied by the Scheibers since 2001. It features four bedrooms, a pool, four and a half baths and a bar area in the finished basement.

The Scheibers added on the kitchen, a sunroom and an extra bedroom after they bought the home. A small pool house is located in the back yard, complete with a small kitchen and another bathroom.

Girl Scout information meetings Sept. 14-17

Informational meetings will be held for interested girls on how to become a Girl Scout.

• Monday Sept. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church.

• Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6:30 to 7:30, at Roanoke Elementary School, in the school cafeteria.

• Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6 to 7 p.m., at Northwest Elementary, in the gym.

'Bible trailer' education could return in different form

Students in the Huntington County Community Schools could be back in the "Bible trailer" before the end of the year.

The return of the voluntary religious education classes depends on two things.

First, a federal judge must approve an agreement reached by parties in the federal lawsuit that halted the program last spring.

Then, the program's sponsor must find sites near, but not on, school property where the classroom trailer can be parked.

Advanced Engineering announces expansion plans

A Huntington business has announced plans to expand, thanks to new contracts with area orthopedic companies.

Advanced Engineering, currently located at 5299 Mishler Rd., will acquire a 23,500-square-foot building near the Huntington Municipal Airport, spokesperson Frances Stouffer says.

The business, founded in 1982, earned certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in October 2008, demonstrating its ability manufacture for adn sell to medical device companies.
