Riverview boys split at Whitko hoop tourney

The Riverview Middle School eighth grade boys' basketball team participated in the Whitko eighth grad boys' basketball tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5.

In the first game, Triton defeated Riverview 36-19. Kody Smith and Riley Velez each had four points for RMS.
In the consolation game, Riverview defeated host Whitko 49-40. Mitchell Highes, Cody West and Riley Velez each had 10 points.

The games took Riverview's record to 1-4 on the season.


Lancers go to OT to upset 12th-ranked Foresters

Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Kevin Kyle, the Huntington University men's basketball team pushed host grace to overtime on Saturday, Dec. 5, before falling 66-62, for its first defeat of the season.

Chauncy A. 'Al' Huntington

Chauncy Alva "Al" Huntington, 85, of Warren, IN, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Heritage Pointe in Warren.

Mr. Huntington was a veteran of the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the Battle of Ryukyus in Okinawa during World War II. He had been employed in sales and service by the John Hancock Life Insurance Company, Clean Wear and Midwest Towel and retired as a security guard at Do-It-Best. He was a member of the Three Rivers Gemological Society and volunteered as a park naturalist at the Lindenwood Nature Preserve.

Phyllis J. Fisher

Phyllis J. Fisher, 77, of Zanesville, IN, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at 9:16 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Fisher had worked for Wilson's Auction House. She was a member of the Cornerstone Christian Alliance Church in Roanoke.

She was born May 15, 1932, in Fort Wayne to Russell and Edith Hapner Ort. She married William J. "Bill" Fisher on Jan. 2, 1954, at the Waynedale Methodist Church. Her husband survives.
