Huntington University names dean’s list students for spring

Huntington University has announced the students that were named to the dean's list for the spring semester for the 2010-2011 school year.

Local students recognized were:

Jacqueline Bashop, Samantha Brown, Volodymyr Budnichenko, Aaron Bullen, Kortney Burton, Lai Chau, Austin Coffey, Amber Cotherman, Ashlee Edinger, Piers Fetters, Samantha Freeman, Danielle Gargiulo, Aubrey Garner, Katherine Geders, Leanne Gehrke, Melissa Grossman, Alyssa Hann, Nathan Hann, Joanna Hersey and Alex Hoffman.

EXCEL business degree gets high marks

Huntington University's bachelor's degree in business administration, offered through the EXCEL Adult Degree Programs, was ranked ninth in the Top 10 Online Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Programs of 2011.

The rankings were compiled by The Best Colleges, a publication that reviews publicly available data and then produces independent ranking assessments of colleges in various disciplines. The rankings reviewed reputation, accreditation, student satisfaction and cost.

Local Extension office offers money management workshops

The Purdue Extension Office-Huntington County is offering a free two-hour workshop called "Where Does Your Money Go?" at three different times in July and August.

Participants will learn how spending money today will affect future spending, how to take control of their money, how to plan for emergencies and how little expenditures add up.

Locals make dean’s list at St. Mary’s

Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, recently announced its list of students name to the dean's list.

Local students named were:

Huntington - Alicia Smith and Alexandra Zahm.

Roanoke - Caryn Garton.

To achieve academic honors at Saint Mary's, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale and have at least 12 credit hours, no incompletes and no grades lower than a "C."

 

Accepting applications for BZA

Applications are being accepted for an opening on the Huntington City Plan Commission for a vacant term set to expire on Jan. 1, 2014.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in community affairs and awareness in social, economic, agricultural and industrial issues in the city.

Meetings of the Huntington Plan Commission are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., and members of the commission may be considered for appointment to subcommittees of the plan commission.

God's Call at New Hope Sunday

God’s Call will perform a concert of gospel music Sunday, July 11, at New Hope United Brethren Church.

The New Hope United Brethren Church, 2001 Engle St., will host a gospel concert by God's Call Quartet on Sunday, July 10, at 9:30 a.m.

Members of the quartet are Bob Johnston, Pat Thompson, Kevin Teusch and Mike Tribolet.

A free-will offering will be received at the end of the service.

 

Alice E. Hendry

Alice Elizabeth Hendry, 77, of rural Andrews, IN, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 5:51 p.m. at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Hendry was a 1952 graduate of Lagro High School. She and her husband founded and owned the Peace Pipe Camp and Bait Shop. She as a member of the Dora Christian Church.

She was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Gary to Clinton L. and Bernice Ida Timmons Carrouthers. She married Don E. Hendry on Jan. 25, 1975, at the Dora Christian Church in Wabash County. Her husband survives.

Jeffrey L. Stoffel

Jeffrey L. Stoffel, 55, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at 11:30 p.m. in Roanoke.

Mr. Stoffel graduated from Huntington High School in 1974. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam and held the rank of SPC-E4. He was employed as a machine repairman with Dana Corporation in Marion for 33 years. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post 2689 and Dana Corporation Local Union 7113.

He was born Oct. 24, 1955, in Huntington to Thomas and Margaret "Peg" Rudig Stoffel. His parents survive in Huntington.
