June Senior Friday movie will be ‘Morning Glory’

"Morning Glory" will be the June Senior Friday movie at the Huntington 7 theater on Friday, June 24, at 8:30 a.m.

Free coffee and doughnuts will be available, as well as door prizes.

The monthly movie is a product of a partnership between the Huntington County Council on Aging, Norwood Health and Rehabilitation Center and Parkview Huntington Hospital.

June's co-sponsors include Markle Health and Rehabilitation, McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Miller's Merry Manor, Parkview Home Health and Hospice and Reust Lawn Care and Landscape.

Spectrum will reunite in Huntington July 15 and 16 for free concerts at PAL

The classic rock band Spectrum, formed in Huntington in the 1970s, will return to Huntington for free concerts on July 15 and 16.

Concerts both nights will be held at the Huntington PAL Club from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Spectrum traces its roots back to 1973, when guitarist Randy S. Pierre and drummer Jeff Barts formed the heart of the band while students at Crestview Junior High School. Once at Huntington North High School, they recruited Peter Weicht on bass, Jim Sprinkle on guitar and Scott Lockwood as lead singer.

Joint Vacation Bible School June 19-23

Salamonie Church of the Brethren and Lancaster Wesleyan Church will combine to offer Vacation Bible School on June 19-23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Salamonie Church of the Brethren.

The Vacation Bible School involves parents as well as children, and a canned food drive for the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Warren will be ongoing throughout the five-day event.

Parkview Huntington Hospital to host sleep disorders program on June 23

Parkview Huntington Hospital will present a free program titled "Sleep Disorders: Get a Better Night's Sleep" on Thursday, June 23, at 6:30 p.m., in the lower-level classrooms at Parkview Huntington Hospital, 2001 Stults Rd., Huntington.

The program will feature pulmonologist (respiratory disease specialist) Srinivasan Devanathan, MD, of Parkview Sleep Medicine, a member of Parkview Physicians' Group.

Cherished Horace Mann spot to live on in a new location

A cherished spot in the former Horace Mann Elementary School library will live on, although in a new location.

Brandon's Corner, created 19 years ago in memory of Brandon Mayo by his mother, Toni, is now in its new home in an upstairs room at the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County.

"It's great to continue the tradition of Brandon's Corner," says Desiree Frederick, a staff member of the Boys & Girls Club and a Horace Mann alumna. "It's great that our kids get those resources."

Organizers now taking SSF parade entries

Organizers of the 44th annual Salamonie Summer Festival Parade in Warren are now accepting entries for the parade.

The parade will be held on Friday, July 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The theme of the parade and the festival is "American Pride - Hometown Spirit." Parade entries that best reflect the theme will receive awards.
