Shenefield graduates from Ranger school

Second Lt. Jeremiah Shenefield recently graduated from Army Ranger School.

Ranger School is one of the most intense schools the United States Army has to offer. The 63 days were divided into three phases, urban warfare, mountain training and jungle training.

Shenefield has been assigned to Fort Stewart, Savannah, GA and is scheduled for deployment to Afghanistan in April 2010.

He graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 2008.

Shenefield is the son of Gary and Diana Shenefield, of Huntington.


Huntington Redi-Med now offering season flu vaccine while supply lasts

RediMed Urgent Care Clinics in northeast Indiana, including the clinic in Huntington, are now offering seasonal flu vaccine.

Shots are available for anyone age 4 and older while supplies last. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Shots are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are not necessary.


Women of Moose award scholarship to Warner

Huntington Chapter 255 of the Women of the Moose has awarded its Medical Field Scholarship, worth $300, to Cheryl Warner, of Huntington.

Warner, who is currently employed as a licensed practical nurse at Miller's Merry Manor, is studying for a certified occupational therapy assistant's license at Brown Mackie College, Fort Wayne. She is also a member of the Women of the Moose.

The annual scholarship is awarded on the basis of an essay submitted by the applicants.

Vezeau, Chaney are Jr. Rotarians for September

The Huntington Rotary Club has announced the Junior Rotarians for September to be Huntington North High School students Mitch Vezeau and Ashley Chaney.

Vezeau is the son of Roger and Cindy Vezeau, of Huntington.

His extracurricular activities include sports, volunteering with his church, youth group and missions trips.

Vezeau's Rotarian sponsor is Rose Meldrum.

Chaney is the daughter of EJ and Annette Carroll and Nathan and Misti Chaney, all of Huntington.

Plow Day and benefit to be held on Sept. 19

Three South Whitley-area families are coming together again this year to present the fourth annual Plow Day and benefit on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9 a.m. in southern Whitley County.

Horses and antique tractors will be used to plow a 200-acre area at the event for the public to watch.

Demonstrations will be held to show the creation of apple butter and apple cider. There will also be an Amish bake sale, craft demonstrations and fresh kettle corn.

Pony rides and games will also be featured for children. A hog roast will take place at 11 a.m.

Floyd E. Rector

Floyd E. Rector, 74, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Sept.3, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Rector was a veteran of the United States military.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Roberta Rector; and a sister, Beatrice Storie, of Huntington.

A service will be held Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at 2 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne.


Jimmy D. Felver

Jimmy D. Felver, 48, of Marion, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at 12:25 a.m. at Marion General Hospital.

He was born Sept. 3, 1961, in Hartford City to Stephen Felver and Sharon Richardson Turner. His mother survives in Marion.

Ruby M. Roberts

Ruby M. Roberts, 84, of Bluffton, IN, and a former employee of a Huntington business, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at 5:25 p.m. at her home.

Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker and had also worked at the Phylene Candy company in Huntington. She and her husband served as foster parents for many years. She attended Sonlight Wesleyan Church.

She was born July 16, 1925, in Wayne County, KY, to Edward and Nannie Elizabeth Morrow Daffron. She married Cecil Roberts on July 25, 1942, in Monticello, KY. Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1980.

Dorothy A. Weinley

Dorothy A. Weinley, 73, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at 12:15 p.m. at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Weinley retired from Memcor after 43 years of service as a group leader. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntington.

She was born April 1, 1936, in Huntington to Emerson Dale and Florence Lucille Caley Young. She married Earl Dean Weinley on Sept. 19, 1959, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington. Her husband preceded her in death on May 30, 2002.

Ruby E. Kreisher

Ruby Elizabeth Kreisher, 93, of Markle, IN, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at 5:15 p.m. at the Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Kreisher worked as a custodian at the Markle Medical Center for 25 years. She was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church and had served as the church's financial secretary for 22 years.

She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Huntington County to Dellas M. and Ola L. Fry Dungan. She married Henry E. Kreisher on Oct. 20, 1934, in Bluffton. Her husband preceded her in death on March 19, 1983.
