Scholarship applications are available for youth involved in local 4-H program

The Huntington County Extension Office currently has applications available for seven local 4-H scholarships.

Huntington County 4-H members who are eligible may stop by the Huntington County office of Purdue Extension to pick up an application or may request the applications via email from jhighley@pur due.edu.

Applications must be received no later than May 31.

The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is celebrating the 56th year of Stewardship Week April 24 - May 1.

The 2011 Stewardship Week is themed "Forests for People - More Than You Can Imagine."

William R. 'Bill' Roebuck

William R. "Bill" Roebuck, 82, of Markle, IN, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 7:30 a.m. at the visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Roebuck worked at the Kmart Distribution Center in Fort Wayne for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both in Huntington.

He was born May 3, 1928, in Huntington to Howard and Maude Davis Roebuck. He married Janet Faust on May 8, 1954, in Fort Wayne. His wife survives.

Thelma L. Breese

Thelma L. Breese, 90, of Warren, IN, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Heritage Pointe, Warren.

Mrs. Breese was a graduate of Gas City High School. She was a 70-year member of the Gas City First United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the Chancel Choir. She served as financial secretary and held many other positions in the church.

She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Gas City to Fred and Anna Beers Lanning. She married Edward Breese on May 1, 1941. He preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1979.

Wanda F. Woods

Wanda F. Woods, 65, of New Haven, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Woods had worked for various trucking companies as a secretary and dispatcher for 30 years. She had also worked as a secretary for WANE-TV. She attended New Haven Joy Fellowship Church and was a member of Teamsters Local 414.

She was born May 6, 1945, in Huntington to Roy and Bessie Henthorn Woods.
