Pulse to have Valentine's Talent and Variety Show Friday and Saturday

Barry Jamison will be among the performers at the Valentine's Talent and Variety Show at the Pulse Opera House in downtown Warren.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12, at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door, with discounts for those donating a non-perishable food item.

The fund-raiser features area talent and kicks off the 25th season of entertainment and live theater at the Pulse.

 

Gary L. Botkin

Gary Lee Botkin, 59, of Andrews, IN, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at 4:54 p.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mr. Botkin was self-employed and offered landscaping, mowing and snow removal services in the Andrews area. He had also worked in small engine repair, was a caregiver for Senior Citizens and had been employed by Bircraft in Huntington. He was a lifetime member of the Andrews Wesleyan Church and a member of the American Hunting Club.

Philip E. Herr

Philip E. Herr, 65, of rural Warren, IN, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at 5:55 a.m. at his home in Jackson Township, Wells County.

Mr. Herr graduated from Jackson Center High School in 1963. He was employed by Franklin Electric for 43 years, retiring in 2007, and also farmed. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.

He was born April 3, 1945, in Bluffton to Harold and Lavelle Boxell Herr. He married Mary Lee Gearheart on Nov.16, 1963, at the McMatt Methodist Church. His wife survives.

County’s emergency services efforts ran well

Although last week's snowstorm brought much of Huntington County to a slippery halt, the county's emergency services team ran very smoothly and great cooperation was shown among county departments, said Brandon Taylor, director of the county's Emergency Management Agency, during the Huntington County Commissioners' meeting on Monday, Feb. 7.

Board of works rejects proposed township fire protection deal

The Huntington Board of Public Works and Safety rejected the proposed Huntington Township Fire Protection Agreement for 2011 during its meeting Monday morning, Jan. 7.

The board lacked support of the contract figures and the language.

The contract fee increased 25 percent to nearly $56,000 from $44,700 in 2010, but Mayor Steve Updike said in an earlier discussion while negotiating the agreement with the township he had asked for the payment to be increased to at least $100,000, and Updike said he was told it would be looked into.

Crestview captures eighth grade boys’ county hoop tourney

The Crestview Middle School’s boys’ eighth grade basketball team was crowned Huntington County champions after defeating Riverview on Monday, Feb. 7.

Caleb Landrum banged in 25 points as the Crestview Middle School eighth grade team defeated their Riverview Middle School counterparts, 52-38, to win the Huntington County Middle School Boys' Basketball Tournament on Monday, Feb. 7.
Jordan Seabolt contributed nine points for Crestview while Adam Woods had six.

Crestview ends its season with a 17-5 record.

Chase Asher led Riverview with nine points. Austin Lange and Cody Adams each scored six.

Riverview dropped to a 5-15 record.

Crestview wins 7th grade boys’ county tourney

The Crestview Middle School seventh grade boys’ basketball team captured the County Champion title, on Monday, Feb. 7, by defeating Whitko 46-39.

The Crestview Middle School seventh grade team finished its season by winning the Huntington County Boys' Middle School Championship over Whitko Middle School, 46-39, on Monday, Feb. 7.

Konner Platt scored 19 points to lead the Cougars. Luke Stroud and Jamison Kline each scored nine points, and Trevor Holloway added five.

Crestview ends its season with an 11-7 record.

Viking bowlers heading to semi-state meet

EJ Tackett placed second in singles competition as the Huntington North High School boys' varsity bowling team took third place out of nine teams at the Fort Wayne regional competition at Pro Bowl West in Fort Wayne on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The team will advance to the Muncie Semi-State on Saturday, Feb. 12.

Huntington fell to East Noble in the final bracket to take third place. Snider High School beat East Noble to take first and second places, respectively. Carroll took fourth.
