Landrum leads Crestview eighth grade boys' hoop team past Riverview

Caleb Landrum's 15 points were able to lift the Crestview Middle School eighth grade boys' basketball team over its Riverview counterpart, 28-23, on Thursday, Jan. 6.

Ricky Wedlake's six points and five points and nine rebounds by Adam Woods also aided the Cougars.
Derek Snyder led Riverview with 10 points.

Crestview improved to 10-3 on the season, and Riverview dropped to 3-11.

Riverview's seventh grade boys' basketball team also lost to Crestview, 46-27.

Anthony Capozza was the top scorer for Riverview with eight points. Martin Webb had six.

All-around effort carries CMS eighth grade girls over Lakeview

An all-around team effort by the Crestview Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team led to a CMS win over Lakeview, 33-28, on Thursday, Jan. 6.

Corinne Tester scored eight points, Monica Minton had seven, Tori Rice scored six, Rachel Anderson and Aly Grabner each had five and Morgan Butler added two.
The eighth-graders improved to 9-2 on the season.

The Cougar seventh-graders, however, lost to Lakeview 23-14.

Hannah Williams had eight points and Marissa Jamison scored four as the team fell to a 7-4 record.

CMS eighth boys lose, seventh boys win against Northfield

The Crestview Middle School eighth grade boys' basketball team suffered its third loss of the season, 43-36, at the hands of Northfield on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Jordan Seabolt scored 16 points for the Cougars, while Caleb Landrum had eight. Ricky Wedlake added seven and Adam Woods scored five.

Crestview dropped to 9-3 on the season.

The Crestview seventh grade boys' basketball team smacked Northfield 42-22.

Improving to 6-5, Riverview was led by Konner Platt, who netted 13. Dakota Hunt had seven points and Mason Mounsey and Trevor Holloway each scored six.

Riverview boys' basketball teams halve with Whitko

Host Whitko proved to be too much for the Riverview Middle School eighth grade boys' basketball team as it beat the Raiders 32-25 on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Derek Snyder was the scoring leader for Riverview with 13 points.

The eighth grade team fell to 3-10 on the season.

The Riverview seventh grade boys' basketball team was able to edge Whitko 35-32.

Kory Goodrich led the 4-7 Raiders with 12 points.

 

Riverview girls split with Lakeview

Although Lauren Stephan hit the 10-point mark, the Riverview Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team fell to Lakeview 40-34 on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Maddi Kennedy added eight points and Natasha Grover had five points for the 2-8 Raiders.

Riverview's seventh-graders defeated Lakeview 36-27.

Hannah Stoffel led the team with 12 points, and Abbey Ness had eight.

The seventh grade team is now 7-3 on the season.

 

Richard E. Parlow

Richard E. Parlow, 82, of Fort Wayne, and having family members in Huntington, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.

Mr. Parlow graduated from Tri State University and worked as an accountant for General Electric for 36 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge and Mizpah Shrine.

He was born April 1, 1928, in Potsdam, NY, to Clarence E. and Jane Simpson Parlow. He married Joyce Buckner, who survives.

Last-second FT sinks Kennedy, Foresters at IWU

Caleb Kennedy's big night almost produced a win for the Huntington University men's basketball team, but host Indiana Wesleyan used a free throw in the final second to beat HU, 99-98.

Kennedy, a junior, tallied 16 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists, and his field goal in the final seconds had HU up by two at 98-96. A shot by IWU's Patrick Hopkins with six seconds left tied the contest, and Will Hubertz made the first of two free throws with one second left to give IWU the win.

IWU beats HU women late despite Foresters' final push

A late final push by the Huntington University women's basketball team almost secured a win, but visiting Indiana Wesleyan University had the last word as the Wildcats beat the Foresters 64-61 on Thursday, Jan. 6.

IWU, 15-2 overall, amassed a 14-point lead in the first half and then controlled the scoreboard for much of the second half, leading by nine points with 5:22 left in the contest. A layup by Brita Kuiper at the 5:02 mark, however, sparked the Foresters on a 14-5 run, and following two clutch drives by Sarah Miller, the score was tied at 61-all with just 20 seconds left.
