Evalois L. Sunday

Evalois L. Burkhart Sunday, 84, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at 8 p.m. at her home.

Mrs. Sunday graduated from Huntington High School in 1943. She retired after 35 years as the supervisor of housekeeping and laundry department at Miller's Merry Manor in Huntington. She was a member of the Huntington First Brethren Church, the Saddle Club, Sigma Beta Sorority, Moose Lodge, and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 2689, all of Huntington.

Charles I. Dungan

Charles I. Dungan, 92, a former Majenica,IN,  resident, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 4:27 a.m. at Heritage Pointe in Warren.

Mr. Dungan retired in 1980 from the State Bank of Markle, where he had worked for 26 years. He was a 20-year member of the Weekday Religious Educators Program, the Men's Markle Barbershop Chorus, the Veterans of Fort Wars of Markle and the Huntington County Horseshoe Club.

He had also served in many offices at the Plum Tree United Church of Christ, been a paper hanger and a painter. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Vikings put up fight but are no match for ranked Greyhounds

The Huntington North High School varsity football team put up a solid fight but in the end was defeated 41-3 by state-ranked Carmel on Friday, Aug. 27.

Sophomore Andrew Coe prevented a Carmel shutout with his 28-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Despite the 38-point schism between the teams, the Vikings still fought throughout the game, even after going into the locker room at halftime with a 21-3 deficit against last year's state runner-up in Class 4A.

Crestview cross country teams participate at Maplecreek meet

Crestview Middle School cross-country runners participated in the Maplecreek Middle School meet on Thursday, Aug. 26.

All runners ran individually in the meet, and each gender and grade level had its own race. The results are as follows:

Virginia 'Ginny' Bell

Virginia "Ginny" Ross Bell, 80, of Huntington, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at 6:02 a.m. at the Norwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Bell was a 1949 graduate of Dondero High School in Royal Oak, MI. She was a homemaker. She was a life member of Central Christian Church, where she was a past president of the Disciples of Women and she also served as deaconess and deacon.

Virginia "Ginny" Ross Bell, 80, of Huntington, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at 6:02 a.m. at the Norwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Paul E. Lauer

Paul E. Lauer, 90, of North Manchester, IN, and a former Huntington County resident, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at 7:10 p.m. at the Heritage of Huntington.

Mr. Lauer was a 1938 graduate of Bippus High School. He was a lifetime farmer in Warren Township. He was member and board member of the New Hope Church in Bippus, a 50-year member of the Bippus Lions Club, and the Huntington County Rural Youth.

Roy W. Quinn

Roy Wayne Quinn, 68, of rural Urbana, and a native of Huntington, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Quinn graduated from Noble High School in 1961 and had owned and operated Quinn & Son, Inc., since 1978. He also operated Roy Quinn & Son Lime Spreading and was a member of International Harvester Chapter 33.

He was born July 8, 1942, in Huntington, to Robert Dale and Myrtle Marie Wintrode Quinn. He married Marlene Curless on Sept. 2, 1961, in Wabash. His wife survives.
