Robert J. Alexander

Robert Joseph Alexander, 66, of rural Wabash, IN, and having relatives in Huntington, IN, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at 10:33 p.m. at his home.

Mr. Alexander worked for Kroger Egg Exchange for many years and retired from Hayes Lemmerz International in Wabash. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge, both of Wabash, and was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus, in Wabash. A 1960 graduate of Noble High School, he was a United States Army veteran. He spent the winter months in Bradenton, FL.

He was born June 20, 1942 in Wabash County to Donald J. and Eunice E. Hoffman Alexander. He married Rita Aulbach at St. John's Catholic Church in Hartford City on Sept. 17, 1966. His wife survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Theresé (David) Mettler, of Huntington; a son, Kraig (Andrea) Alexander, of Oxford, MI; a sister, Rebecca (Lowell) Wilson, of Kokomo; and a brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Alexander, of Wabash; six grandchildren, Jacob Alexander, Claire Alexander and Kiersten Alexander, all of Oxford; and Alexander Mettler, Eileen Mettler, and Ella Mettler, all of Huntington.

Calling will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 188 W. Sinclair St., Wabash, with Rev. Sextus Don officiating. Burial will be at Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

Preferred memorials are to St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash County Cancer Society or Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice, all in care of Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, IN 46992.
