David G. Gardner

David G. Gardner, 57, of Oldenburg, IN, and formerly of Andrews, IN, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 3:47 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital and Health Care, Beech Grove.

Mr. Gardner graduated from Kettering West High School, Kettering, OH, and received an associate degree from Vincennes University in 1972, a bachelor's from Huntington College in 1974 and a master's from University of Dayton in 1979 in education administration. He was a long-time high school administrator and coach, most recently substitute teaching and serving as assistant wrestling coach at Greensburg High School. He held various positions on state and national level soccer coaching associations.

He taught in Southwest Ohio for 11 years and was principal at Madison-Grant and Adams Central. He has also been a soccer coach at Huntington College and Indiana Wesleyan.

He was born July 1, 1951, in Rochester, NY, to Herbert S. and Elaine B. Wood Gardner. He married Debra M. Anson at Andrews United Methodist Church, and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Jason (Michelle) Gardner, of Arnold, MO; a daughter, Amber (Michael) Lecher, of Batesville; his mother, of Huntington, and three grandchildren, Travis Lecher, Renee Lecher and Mason Bryce Gardner.

A funeral service was held Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Deal-Rice Funeral Home-Huntington Chapel, with Rev. Mark Whinery of Andrews United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery at a later date.
