Maridith J. 'Mert' Lahr

Maridith J. "Mert" Lahr, 74, of Fort Wayne, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, and Markle, IN, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Lahr was a 1953 graduate of Rockcreek High School, Huntington County, and was a member of the Huntington County Sports Hall of Fame. He was a self-employed carpenter and farmer in Huntington County. He had also coached youth Farm League and Pony League baseball in Markle.

He was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Huntington County to Leroy James and Hattie Ellen Broyles Lahr. He married Phyllis S. Allen on April 26, 1963, in Monroe. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Terry Lahr, of Sebring, FL; a daughter, Teresa Lahr-Williams, of Florida; six sisters, Maribelle Sparks, Ruby Sparks and Delphia Marshall, all of Markle; and Rose Christen, Melba Kay Bolding and Crystal Tester, all of Huntington; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A service was held Friday, June 12, 2009, at Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Interment was at the Markle Cemetery.
