Norma H. Tinker

Norma Helen Tinker, 86, of Berne, IN, and having family members in Huntington, died Jan. 5, 2009, at the Swiss Village Retirement Center in Berne, where she had resided since July 2004.

Mrs. Tinker was a 1940 graduate of El Dorado County High School in California. She was a homemaker and did extensive volunteer work.

She served as a member of the Huntington College Board of Trustees for eight years and was currently a trustee emeritus. She had also served on the California Council on Alcohol Problems and was active in the Women's Missionary Association of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. She was a members of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Tinker was a long-time member of the Hillsdale United Brethren Church in Sacramento, CA, and had also attended the Arcade Baptist Church while living in Sacramento. While a resident of Swiss Village, Mrs. Tinker attended the Monroe United Brethren Church.

She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Twin Falls, ID, to Fred L. and Helen Cochran Kelty. She married Warren R. Tinker Feb. 10, 1942, in Carson City, NV. Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Chaney) Bergdall, of Huntington; a son, Thomas F. Tinker, of California; and two grandsons.

A funeral service was held at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, with Rev. Gary Dilley officiating. A graveside service will take place Jan. 14, 2009, at 3 p.m. at East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park, Sacramento, CA.
