Myrle E. Blair

Myrle E. “Pinky” Shoemaker Blair, 76, of Columbia City, IN, and formerly employed and with family in Huntington, IN, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 1:43 p.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City.

Mrs. Blair graduated from high school in 1951. She worked for Wabash Magnetics in Huntington for 20 years and went on to work for the Herald-Press as a paper carrier.

She was born Jan. 9, 1933, in Orrick, MO, to Russell C. and Nicie Holloway Phillips. She married Carl “Jack” Edward Shoemaker on Oct. 30, 1950, in Huntington. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1969. She married Michael Blair on Aug. 8, 1980, in Roanoke. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Shoemaker, of Huntington, and Lloyd H. Shoemaker, of Kimmell; a daughter, Janet (Alan) Hanelin, of Columbia City; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Calling is Tuesday, July 14, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a funeral service at 3 p.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. Reverend Elzie Spencer will officiate. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery.
