LaVada L. North, 76, of LaFontaine, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Rolling Meadows Healthcare, LaFontaine.

Mrs. North had been employed by El Toro Marine Base in El Toro, CA, as a switchboard operator and mail clerk. She retired from South Coast Hospital in California. She was a member of the Hospital Guild.

She was born Aug. 20, 1935, in Sandborn to George and Cordella DeWeese Stremming.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth (Marianne) North, of Andrews; two daughters, Rhonda (Jerry) Martin, of Huntington, and Donna (Andy) Purviance, of Bristol; two brothers, George (Rosemary) Stremming, of Plainfield, and Maurice (Zuella) Stremming, of Bicknell; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling is Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, from noon to 2 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery, Huntington.
