Jule A. Durnbaugh

Jule A. Durnbaugh, 92, of Winona Lake, IN, and formerly of rural Lagro, IN, died Jan. 5, 2009, at 6:25 a.m. at Grace Village Healthcare at Winona Lake.

Mrs. Durnbaugh was a 1934 graduate of Fairmount High School. She was the manager of the F.W. Woolworth lunch counter, Wabash, and had also worked at Papa Joe's and the Wabash Cafeteria, both in Wabash. She was a member of the Asbury Country Church, formerly the Asbury United Methodist Church, Wabash, and the United Methodist Women. She had lived most of her life on the family farm in rural Lagro.

She was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Wabash County to Chester H. and Blanche B. Hester Crow. She married John David Durnbaugh Sept. 11, 1943, in Lagro. Her husband preceded her in death on April 27, 2001.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Dan) Bickel, of Fort Wayne, and Alice (Glenn) Gambel, of Whitehall, MI; a sister, Barbara Jean Whitinger, of Thorntown; and a grandson.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service,  Wabash, with Rev. John Cook officiating. Burial was at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County.
