Richard Roy Kumler, 68, of LaFontaine, IN, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at 3:10 a.m. at the home of his daughter.
Mr. Kumler graduated from Kewanna High School in 1961 and attended Purdue University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in education in 1968 and a Master's in education in 1969. He served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965.
He was a member of the LaFontaine United Methodist Church, LaFontaine Masonic Lodge 295, LaFontaine Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, Van Buren American Legion Post 368 and the Troyer Memorial Library Board.
He was born Aug. 26, 1943, in Kewanna to Loren D. and Lois I. Tomlinson Kumler. He married Nancy Jean Walters on Sept. 4, 1966. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Robert (Kim) Kumler, of LaFontaine; a daughter, Andrea (Kip) Benbow, of LaFontaine; a brother, Robert (Darla) Kumler, of Rochester; and a sister, Patricia Hoover, of Rochester.
Calling is Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main St., LaFontaine. A service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the LaFontaine United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brad Garrett and Rev. Larry Ray officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, LaFontaine.
Preferred memorials are gifts to the American Cancer Society or the current building fund at LaFontaine United Methodist Church.
