Rev. Reuben D. Eversman

Rev. Reuben D. Eversman, 77, of LaPorte, and formerly of Huntington, died Jan. 7, 2009, at 11:50 a.m. at the LaPorte Hospital.

Rev. Eversman moved to LaPorte in 1991 from Huntington, where he had served as a pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ.

He graduated in 1949 from the New Knoxville (OH) High School and from Mission House College and Seminary, Plymouth, WI, in 1956. He ministered to United Church of Christ congregations in Clay City, LaPorte and in Alleman, IA, as well as in Huntington. He was active in the LaPorte Hospital Pastoral Care Program and was a member of the LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary and the LaPorte City Park Board. He was a member and past president of Habitat for Humanity of LaPorte County, a member and past president of the Lions Club, a volunteer for LaPorte Meals on Wheels and co-chairman of the Fort LaPlay Porte playground in 1991. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaPorte

He was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Shelby County, Ohio, to Wesley and Viola Kuck Eversman. He married Lois C. Schroeder June 22, 1952, in New Knoxville, OH. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Rachel (Mark) Siegel, of Urbandale, IA, and Ruth Eversman, of Ames, IA; two sons, David Eversman, of LaPorte, and Daniel (Tina) Eversman, of Lafayette; a brother, Roger (Marilee) Eversman, of New Knoxville, OH; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at First United Methodist Church, LaPorte, on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, with Rev. Evan Lash and Chaplain Steve Laue officiating. Burial will take place at a later time at Pilge Rue Cemetery, Knoxville, OH.

Preferred memorials are gifts to the Missions Fund or the Music Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 1225 Michigan Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
