John S. Bradin

John Simon Bradin, 87, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at 11:05 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, Warren.

Mr. Bradin earned a Bachelor of Science in radio engineering from Tri-State College in 1950. He had worked as an electronics engineer for Capehart-Farnsworth, Fort Wayne; Sparton Electronics, Michigan; Louis Allis Co., Wisconsin; Model Engineering, Huntington; and the United States Department of Defense in Indiana. He was the author of "Handbook of Reliability Engineering and Management."

He served with the United States Navy during World War II and earned several awards, including the Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct, American Theater, Asiatic Pacific Theater, three combat stars and the World War II Victory Award. He wrote "Navy Air Service Unit Throughout World War II," recounting the war experience.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, and the Eagles Lodge, in Garrett.

He was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Garrett to Ioan "John" and Florence Simon Bradin. He married Shirley Marie Walston on Jan. 21, 1948. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2011.

Survivors include two sons, James (Rhonda) Bradin, of Garrett, and Joseph (Theresa) Bradin, of Huntington; four daughters, Nancy (Gary) Mickley and Julie (Giuseppe) Ceravolo, both of Huntington; Deborah Tinsley, of Vallejo, CA; and Pamela "Susie" (Ricky) Smith, of Fort Wayne; a sister, Ann (Arthur) Warner, of Columbia, SC; 15 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, April 26, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington. Rev. Ron Rieder will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
