Alfred D. 'Wayne' Townsend

Alfred D. "Wayne" Townsend, 72, of Montpelier, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at 8:05 a.m. at his home.
Mr. Townsend attended Roll High School and was a former Montpelier police chief and police officer. He had also worked as a truck driver and maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Amvets and the Indiana National Guard, both in Hartford City.
He was born April 8, 1940, in Hartford City to Alfred A. and Helen Julienee Waters Townsend. He married Nancyanna Groendyke on Oct.23, 1964, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Scott D. Townsend and Sean D. Townsend, both of Montpelier; a daughter, Lois L. Townsend, of Eaton; three brothers, Jerry (Pearl) Townsend, of Muncie, and Bill (Diane) Townsend and Dean (MaryAnn) Townsend, both of Hartford City; a sister, Barbara Blankenship, of Springfield, MO; and five grandchildren, Scott D. Townsend II, Miriam Troyer, Adrianna D. Catt, Kyle F. Campbell and David Troyer.
Calling is Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 15, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Chris Nelson officiating. Interment will be at the Pleasantdale Cemetery, Blackford County.
