James E. Brooks

James Edward Brooks, 89, formerly of Marion, IN, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Superior Care Nursing Home in Paducah, KY.

Mr. Brooks spent most of his adult life in Landess and Marion. He was a World War II veteran and Bronze Star recipient. He served as a medic in the United States Army, 114th Medical Battalion.

Mr. Brooks retired from the VA Hospital in Marion after 30 years and Summit Bank in Marion after 10 years. After retirement he worked at Hill's Department Store in Marion as a greeter.

He was born in Houston County, TN, to Edward P. Brooks and Ida Hendricks Brooks. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, and his second wife, Ethel.

Surviving are a son, Raymond (Mary) Brooks, of Murfreesboro, TN; four daughters, Pauline Ott, of Marion; Margie (Kenny) Pitman, of Murfreesboro, TN; Mary (Steve) Martz, of Sun Lakes, AZ; and Chris "Eunice" (Randy) Janne , of Paducah, KY; a
daughter-in-law, Patty Brooks, of Fort Wayne; 18 grandchildren, 28 great­grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Monday, June 18, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ferguson & Glancy Funeral Home, 201 West Main St., Van Buren and for one hour on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, before the 10:30 a.m. service at the West 8th Street Wesleyan Church, Marion. Rev. Ben Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion. Military services will be held at the cemetery by the Grant County Honor Guard, Marion.
