Jack A. Stapleton, 73, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having family members in Huntington County, IN, died Monday, June 25, 2012.
Mr. Stapleton worked for GTE as a telephone data technician before retiring in 1994 from Verizon. After retirement, he continued to work contract jobs with other companies. He was a member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church, GTE Retirees Club and IBEW Local 723.
He was a former member of the Old Fort Model A Club and Wayne Township Fire Department. He served as director while implementing the Emergency 911 system in Sullivan County.
He was born May 19, 1939, in Fort Wayne to Harry and Mary Jane Gongaware Stapleton. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rebecca L. "Becky" Grable Stapleton.
Additional survivors include three sons, Dennis (Betty) Stapleton, of Waco, TX; John Stapleton, of Chester, CA; and Dale (Lynn) Stapleton, of Roanoke; two daughters, Cynthia (Bernard) Hedrick and Julie (Brian) Houser, both of Huntington; a stepson, Thomas Grable, of Marshall, IL; three sisters, Gladys Franks, Dorothy Kehr and Marjorie Winn; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Calling is Wednesday, June 27, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne. A service will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 8010 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Garden.
